On Thursday, April 27, a group of students from North Rose-Wolcott High School participated in the regional Envirothon competition sponsored by the Wayne County Soil and Water District. The competition was held at the Montezuma Audubon Center in Savannah. Students participated in five categories based on environmental conservation and education, including Soil and Land Use, Forestry, Wildlife, Aquatic Ecology, and Global Climate Change. These topics tie in directly with the curriculums found in the four core sciences (Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, and Physics) as well as NRWHS’ Environmental Conservation course.  

During the Envirothon, teams exercise their problem-solving skills and knowledge of environmental science in a series of challenges. The primary goal of the program is to learn about the natural environment and become stewards of the land.

This was the first time that NRW had students participate since winning the regional competition in 2019, and NRW was the only school participating to bring three full teams to the event.

NRW teachers Mr. Wojieck, Ms. Swetman and Mr. Grasso served as coaches. Participating students included Addam Deon Jr., Cadalina Ohler, Maddie Evans, Maggie Wanek, Landon Bundy, Brendan Winter, Ashton Smith, Avery Boogaard, Alston Anaya-Hernandez, Keira Costello, Elliot Bush, Clayton Collins, Evan DeWispelaere and Stephen Robinson.
