Spellers Show Their Skills at NRW Spelling Bee

NRW Spelling Bee participants

Over a dozen NRW students in fourth through eighth grades put their spelling skills to the test on February 13!

The North Rose-Wolcott Spelling Bee, held in the NRW Middle School auditorium, featured 14 rounds of competition. Participants were given a packet of words to study prior to Monday’s spelling bee.

Kit Wanek, a sixth-grade student at NRWMS, won in the 14th round by correctly spelling the word “apartment.” Second place went to fifth grader Nathan Hallock, and third place went to fourth grader Joelyana Sloan.

Kit and Nathan will represent NRW at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Regional Spelling Bee on March 18 in Geneva. The winner of the regional bee will go on to represent the Wayne-Finger Lakes region in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee at the end of May.

We will be cheering Kit and Nathan on in the regional bee and congratulate them and all students who participated on a job well done!
