High School presents "Into The Woods"

North Rose-Wolcott High School students are putting the final touches on the musical “Into The Woods.” Performances are slated for Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m., with a special performance for senior citizens scheduled for Thursday, February 28 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens.

"A cow as white as milk; a cape as red as blood; the hair as yellow as corn; the slipper as pure as gold." These are the ingredients a baker and his wife must find in order to break a curse placed by a witch on their family. Their adventure crosses paths with familiar Brothers Grimm characters: Cinderella on her way to the ball, Jack on his way down the beanstalk, Little Red Ridinghood on her way to Granny's, and Rapunzel dreaming in her tower.

“Into the Woods” is an epic fairytale, both humorous and haunting, about the choices we make and their inevitable consequences. Music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, and the book is written by James Lapine. Greg Maddock is directing the NRW production, and band director Michael Witkiewitz will produce the music.

Act One is rated PG, and Act Two is rated PG-13 for thematic content only. Young families are welcome to attend Act One or stay for the entire performance as they see fit.

NRW students expressed their enthusiasm for their peers and staff who made the musical possible and noted that they were looking forward to opening night.

"Our school’s musical program means the world to me,” said senior Shealyn Shattuck. “It’s been there for me in times of my life when I really needed it, and it’s given me a family of people that I will love forever. It is so important for students to have the opportunity to do shows, not just for the performance experience, but to make friends and put themselves out there in general.”

"The musical is definitely something I look forward to every year,” said sophomore Aubrey Liseno. “Being in the musical has really gotten me out of my shell. I love performing and I also love all of the friendships it brings."

"The musical is important to me because it brings us together and we get to have a blast putting on a show for the community,” said sophomore Abi Jo Wanek.
