North Rose-Wolcott Elementary students and staff recently paid tribute to 39 veterans with a special breakfast and assembly. Students invited family members who had previously served or are currently serving in the military to attend the breakfast and assembly.
Breakfast was provided and served by NRWE staff members in the cafeteria. The assembly immediately followed in the gymnasium. During the assembly, fourth-grade students read about what it means to be a veteran and recapped important events in US history. NRWE Principal Melissa Pietricola also spoke to the audience about bravery.
“Over the past week, our students have focused on what bravery means to them,” Pietricola said. “We’re very thankful to these veterans for their bravery and service.”
The patriotic assembly featured several traditional American songs, including the Star-Spangled Banner, that audience members sang along to. Veterans were also recognized individually during the assembly, and the students who invited them escorted them to the front of the gym to receive flowers and a certificate.
