Seventh Graders' Creativity Shines in National Writing Contest

Seventh Graders' Creativity Shines in National Writing Contest

North Rose-Wolcott seventh graders can soon officially call themselves published authors! This fall, Mrs. Wiegand submitted her ELA students’ work to Young Writers USA’s Stranger Sagas Contest—and an incredible 34 students were selected for publication.

Each writer will have their story featured in Stranger Sagas – The Unexplained, a national anthology showcasing young authors from across the country. Students also received a commemorative bookmark and certificate celebrating their accomplishment.

Young Writers, an organization dedicated to inspiring a love of writing in children, praised the class for their standout submissions.

“Having all your students’ work chosen is something to be proud of—it doesn’t happen every day!” the Young Writers team wrote in a letter announcing their decision. “We were impressed with their writing.”

Seventh graders were challenged to craft “mini-sagas” -- short, suspenseful tales built around something strange or mysterious. Stories were judged on imagination, creativity, expression, originality, and language use.

Stranger Sagas – The Unexplained is expected to be released in early 2026, and excitement is already building. Mrs. Wiegand’s students can’t wait to see their names in print! Great job, seventh graders!
