Hanshaw Repeats as NRW Spelling Bee Champion
For the second year in a row, Hunter Hanshaw has qualified to represent North Rose-Wolcott at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Regional Spelling Bee!
Hunter, a seventh grader at NRW Middle School, outlasted seven other contestants at the third annual North Rose-Wolcott Spelling Bee, held February 10 in the middle school auditorium. Second place went to fifth grader Mattalynn Ohler, who will serve as an alternate should Hunter not be able to attend the regional bee in March. The winner of the Wayne-Finger Lakes regional spelling bee will go on to represent the region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Students in fourth through eighth grades were invited to put their spelling skills to the test at the district spelling bee, receiving a list of words to study in advance.
Participation in the spelling bee not only helps with spelling skills, but with public speaking and confidence. All of our contestants were courageous and did an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G job!
