Grading Policy

  • All assignments are expected to be handed in on time. In the event that an assignment is not handed in on time, the following policy will be followed:

    -         Handed in up to one week late – 20% penalty

    -         Handed in after one week late – 50% penalty

    -         Homework is not accepted late. It is due at the beginning of class on the due date.

Labs: All labs need to score a 65% or better to count towards the Regents. Any lab not scoring a 65% or better can be made up at any time before the Performance exam. Any lab scoring between a 64% and 84% can be made up to an 85% to help bring overall grades up. Labs will be graded on a 60 point scale, with 39 points or higher being considered satisfactory for lab credit.

Exams: All exams can be made up during the term they were administered to bring a grade up half the way to 100 points. For example, if you score an 80 on the exam, you can make it up with me after school and bring your grade up to a 90. Exams will be graded on a 100 point scale.

Overall Grade Calculation: Overall term grades are calculated based on a points system. At the end of each term, students will have had the opportunity to earn a certain amount of points and his or her grade will be calculated based on the percentage of points actually earned versus the available points that could have been earned. For example: During Term 1, a student had the opportunity to earn 1200 points but earned a total of 1016 points, that student would earn a course grade of 85% for Term 1. At the end of the year, overall course grades will be calculated based on the accepted grading policy found in the Staff Handbook.
