Dear NRWE Families,
One cannot help but stop and reflect on what an incredible year 2019-2020 turned out to be. No one could have imagined that our students would have been able to transition successfully to a digital learning environment in just a matter of days, and that is truly thanks to all of our families and community members who were able to support them. Thank you, sincerely, for your patience with us and with the situation. Your constructive feedback and willingness to problem-solve with us was key, and we now know that we can tackle any hurdle thrown our way!
With that being said, whew, are we glad it is summer! We understand that a break is well-deserved, but we would like to keep students engaged and learning this summer. For those families interested we’ve developed a few options for summer school. We know that not having Summer Escape is a disappointment, but we are also looking at this as an opportunity to customize the learning experience for your unique child. Please fill out this form for each of your children that you’d like to commit to summer programming. You’ll also find enclosed grade level-specific opportunities to keep your child working at their own pace. An idea might be to incentivize them to complete one listed activity a day on the calendar. Ice cream on Friday anyone?!
As you likely know, our report cards are standards-based and teachers did their best to assess where possible if students’ have reached the standard for each skill. It is inevitable some areas will not be assessed, and those will be marked as “NA”. This is not to be interpreted negatively or as a failure. There aren’t final grades or final exams like on a secondary report card. Elementary report cards do not stay in a permanent record file, as they might once have, or affect your child’s placement moving forward. All of our students will be progressing on to the next grade level; we know and appreciate that none of this was their fault. We look forward to the fall when we can re-assess students, make plans for recouping lost learnings or even enriching, where appropriate!
The Technology Department has shared that all K-11 students will be keeping their Chromebooks at home this summer. Use is at parent discretion, and they will continue to be monitored for misuse with our Go Guardian software. If you have a need for support or assistance, please reach out to the Tech Department at email@example.com.
If you have any questions about the end of school, report cards, or would like to discuss summer school options, please do not hesitate to call me at the main office at 315-594-3141. I can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are expecting the main office at NRWE will be open to support you and your family and for pick up of student items throughout the months of July and August from 8-4 PM daily.
It has been my honor and pleasure to work with your children this year. I’ve missed them terribly, and I look forward to getting back to our school routines. I am anticipating that I will be out on family leave for September and October; please share with your child that I cannot wait to be reunited with them at NRWE in November!!
Wishing you and your family all the best,
